So, who is Margaret White?
Margaret White has been a mortgage banker for 40 years. Her vast experience includes serving as the operations manager for Wells Fargo Mortgage over the Western States Builder Division. She also was the President of Allstate Mortgage, with its impressive 43 branches. Margaret White was even one of the first approved Fannie Mae underwriters and has served on the task force that designed the 1003. She has literally trained thousands of people on how to be a mortgage banker. Margaret's mentor was David Maxwell who was the President of Ticor Mortgage Insurance and went on to be the Chairman of FNMA. Margaret was the San Francisco Underwriting Office's Manager. You can read about Maxwell in the book Good to Great.

Not clear what mortgage banking is about?
Mortgage banking is the origination, sales and servicing of mortgage loans. The term mortgage banking is misleading, as it implies that mortgage bankers are depository institutions. Mortgage bankers are better described as financial intermediates that are institutions that come between a consumer and a service or range of services. The mortgage banker serves as the middle man, making loans and then selling them to other investors within the United States and abroad. Mortgage bankers are particularly effective at moving capital from areas with a surplus of money to deficit regions by means of securitizing loans for sale that share common characteristics.

What is Margaret's advice to individuals just starting out in the mortgage banking industry?
In the forty years I have been a mortgage banker, I have enjoyed the freedom to earn the money I needed to raise my family and educate my two daughters. I was always able to be there for them while they were growing up because my time was my own. The mortgage banking business has allowed me to meet many people in my community. I still meet new people each day, which is my favorite part of the job. Knowing you have helped people is reward in its own right. However, the only limitation to the amount of money you can make as a mortgage banker is the ceiling you set for yourself. The most difficult thing to teach people is to not undervalue themselves because the sky truly is the limit. You will get what you settle for. Take the first step and take my class. Embark on a wonderful adventure that will truly change your life.

"I have been under Margaret White's mentorship in two different companies and have been impressed with her knowledge base and her ability to share it to myself and others."

"Margaret is what we call a 'true' business professional. Sharp! Alert! Quick and loving. She has the ability to not only take care of her business, but all the employees in it, as well. I can remember her often saying, 'It's already done!' to many other mortgage companies, and she wasn't kidding either."

- Joseph Petticoffer, Sr. Mortgage Closer.

"I first met Margaret a little over twenty years ago when I was hired by Advance Mortgage. At the time, Advance Mortgage was under the gun from the Federal Government to be in compliance with their manuals for FHA/VA/FANNIE MAE/FREDDIE MAC. Margaret was hired as the expert to write these manuals.

During this time I was amazed at her intelligence and accumulated knowledge. This was a young woman who knew 10 times more about the mortgage business than any man at Advance Mortgage. Margaret was ALWAYS right. I worked for Advance and for several other mortgage companies over the next 15 years and have never run across another person, man or woman that could equal Margaret in knowledge of every aspect of the mortgage industry. I was very privileged to have worked with her and to have known her all these years."

- Julia Bonadona, Regional Processing Manager.

"Margaret stepped into a new region created for the builder world with a sense of enthusiasm to make it the best. She has been an awesome role model, as far as positive attitudes and outlooks are concerned. Her ability to drive the teams to perfection is sincere and the team's willingness to embrace her is phenomenal.

Margaret designed a successful training for those interested in her region to do an overview of how the entire mortgage system works. I have grasped more information in her training than all of the training we have received. Margaret is compelled to have you understand why you are completing something, not just that it needs to be done.”

- Jacqui Warner-Yungen, Management Excellence Nomination Wells Fargo Mtg.

"Margaret is an excellent mentor and communicator, with an openness that lets you know you can bring all issues to her and she will give you the guidance on how to handle the situation. Working for Margaret challenged us to move outside our comfort levels. Leading by example, Margaret has taught us that leadership is not a spectator sport. Great leaders lead by example; Margaret's intensity, focus, drive and dedication inspire those around her to greatness."

- Joan E Torbett, Karen J. Patterson, Paula Hill, Barbara Bogner and Nancy Abrams, Team leaders Management Excellence Nomination Wells Fargo Mortgage.
